Ramadan Mubarak!
The holy month of Ramadan is upon us, and Muslims across the globe are preparing for a deeply spiritual time. Utilizing the lunar calendar, this sacred time begins with the appearance of the crescent moon on Feb. 17 and ends with the appearance of the next crescent moon, culminating with the celebration of Eid al-Fitr. During this holy month, days are spent abstaining from food and drink from dawn until sunset, while nights are often filled with prayer, Qur’an/Quranic recitation, charity and quiet moments of mindfulness/self-discipline. For many fasting teaches patience, gratitude, empathy for those less fortunate and strengthens faith. It also strengthens bonds within families, communities, and the workplace. This is a time for us to reflect on the profoundly positive effect that cultivating spiritual wellbeing can have on our mental wellbeing, and to support each other as we express religious freedom in our own individual ways.
At a time when divisiveness permeates many parts of this nation, the Alliance for Rights and Recovery chooses to embrace community and uplift how our differences in religious observances strengthen every human.
The Alliance for Rights and Recovery’s Cultural Competence Committee, Staff, and Board join with Muslims around the world in wishing all of our Alliance family a month filled with mercy, forgiveness and spiritual growth as we say “Ramadan Mubarak.” Join The Alliance in offering respect, understanding, and support to the Muslim community during this time. Ramadan Mubarak!
