Register for POWER Coalition’s Congressional Briefing on May 15!

April 27, 2026 by The Alliance for Rights and Recovery

The People Organized for Wellness, Empowerment, and Recovery (POWER) Coalition is proud to host an upcoming Congressional Briefing: “Strengthening Mental Health and Substance Use Services Nationwide”

When: Friday, May 15, 2026, 9:00 – 10:30 AM EST
Where: 2168 Rayburn House Office Building, 50 Independence Avenue SW, Washington, DC

This important briefing is sponsored by the Congressional Addiction Treatment and Recovery Caucus which consists of 80 Members of Congress from both sides of the aisle dedicated to advancing bipartisan solutions to the country’s multifaceted mental health and addiction crises. The briefing will bring together leaders and advocates from across the country to highlight the current state of mental health and substance use services and the urgent need to strengthen community-based supports to advance recovery.

The POWER Coalition is a growing national group formed by people in recovery from mental health and addictions, family members, youth, advocates, researchers, and other allies in response to escalating threats to civil and human rights, essential services, and federal funding along with attacks on diversity and equity. It is grounded in the belief that recovery is the goal for all and works to advance policies that promote dignity, autonomy, and access to community-based supports for everyone with mental health and substance use challenges.

The event is co-sponsored by a number of national organizations including The Alliance for Rights and Recovery, Faces and Voices of Recovery, Mental Health America, National Federation of Families, and Youth MOVE National.

Together, we will provide Members of Congress and their staff with a real-world perspective on:

·  What is currently working in mental health and substance use services

·  Where critical gaps remain

·  The federal actions needed to strengthen prevention, treatment, recovery, and long-term stability

The panel will feature voices representing mental health and addictions recovery, youth, and families, offering a comprehensive view of how federal policy can better support individuals, families, youth, and communities.

This is a critical opportunity to elevate the importance of community-based, recovery support services and ensure federal policy reflects the needs, rights, and voices of the people and communities we serve.

Please also see the attached flyers for additional details, and feel free to share this opportunity with your networks.

We hope you can join us for this important conversation!
