Don’t Miss This Opportunity to Shape Federal Recovery Policies and Programs!

July 1, 2026 by The Alliance for Rights and Recovery

Alliance Alert: Our friends at Faces and Voices are urging advocates to respond to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services’ (HHS) request for public input through the Great American Recovery Initiative on how to strengthen prevention, treatment, and recovery for substance use and mental health conditions. Comments are due by July 5. Face and Voices emphasizes that “if we want recovery to be fully recognized, funded, and integrated into our nation’s response, we need a strong showing from the recovery community.” See below for more details

Urgent: Help Shape a Recovery-Ready Nation Submit Comments by July 5

Recovery Advocates, Recovery Community Organizations, Peer Recovery Support Providers, and Recovery Allies,

This is a critical moment for our movement.

The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) is asking for public input through the Great American Recovery Initiative on how to strengthen prevention, treatment, and recovery for substance use and mental health conditions. If we want recovery to be fully recognized, funded, and integrated into our nation’s response, we need a strong showing from the recovery community.

Comments are due by July 5, 2026.
How to submit:
Email: REPORTSCLEARANCEOFFICER@ahrq.hhs.gov
Subject line: Great American Recovery

What should you include?
Consider sharing recommendations about:
• Recognizing recovery as a measurable, fundable outcome across federal programs
• Sustainable funding for peer recovery support services and Recovery Community Organizations
• Investing in the peer recovery workforce through training, certification, career pathways, and fair wages
• Supporting recovery community centers, recovery housing, and grassroots organizations
• Reducing stigma through public education and person-centered language
• Expanding equitable access to recovery supports across communities
• Integrating recovery into healthcare, criminal justice, housing, child welfare, education, and workforce systems
• Investing in research, evaluation, and recovery outcomes
• Using technology and AI responsibly to expand access to recovery support
• Supporting families, children, and communities affected by substance use and mental health conditions

Why this matters
Federal priorities and funding decisions are being shaped right now.
If recovery voices are missing, recovery risks being treated as an afterthought.
Together, we can help ensure that:
Recovery is expected and supported.
Communities receive the resources they need.
Every person has a pathway to thrive.

Please take a few minutes to submit your comments before July 5 and share this opportunity with your networks.

Together, we can help build a recovery-ready nation.
