Trailblazer Spotlight: Haner Hernández on Building a More Equitable Recovery Services System! Register for the Conference Today to Hear More!

August 28, 2026 by The Alliance for Rights and Recovery

Alliance Conference Trailblazer Spotlight:
Dr. Haner Hernández

The Alliance for Rights and Recovery is proud to welcome Haner Hernández, PhD, CPS, CADCII, LADCI, as one of this year’s Trailblazer presenters at our 44th Annual Conference.

Our Trailblazer Sessions feature visionary leaders who are challenging conventional thinking and demonstrating innovative approaches to advancing recovery, rights, and community wellbeing. These sessions are designed to inspire attendees with bold ideas, practical strategies, and real-world solutions that can transform behavioral health systems.

With more than 39 years of experience in substance use, mental health, HIV/AIDS, problem gambling, and public health, Dr. Hernández has dedicated his career to advancing equity, eliminating disparities, and strengthening communities through a social justice lens. As a nationally recognized trainer, consultant, and public health leader, he has provided technical assistance to organizations across the country through the Prevention, Addiction, and Mental Health Technology Transfer Centers, the Opioid Response Network, and numerous federal, state, and local initiatives. His perspective is also shaped by his own lived experience in long-term recovery, and he is deeply committed to ensuring people with lived and living experience are true partners in building equitable service systems.

In his Trailblazer session, “Eliminating Disparities by Centering Equity and Justice: Individual and Systems Level Responsibilities, Practices, and Actions,” Dr. Hernández will examine how historical inequities, the criminalization of mental health and substance use, and the Structural Determinants of Health have contributed to persistent disparities across our substance use and mental health system. Participants will explore the concepts of health equity, cultural humility, and humanization while learning practical tools and strategies that organizations and individuals can use to reduce disparities, improve outcomes, and create more just and inclusive systems.

If you’re looking for practical strategies to improve equity within your organization while gaining a deeper understanding of the systemic changes needed to eliminate disparities, this is a session you won’t want to miss. Join us at the Alliance for Rights and Recovery’s 44th Annual Conference as our Trailblazer speakers challenge us to think differently about what’s possible, and provide the tools to help build a more equitable future for everyone.
