Alliance Alert: Voting is an important way for people to exercise choice, self-determination, and a voice in their communities. For people with mental health and substance use challenges and other disabilities, participation is especially important because public decisions can directly affect access to health and behavioral health services, disability supports, housing, and other resources.
Later today, from 3:00–4:15 p.m. ET, the American Public Health Association (APHA) will host “Your Vote. Your Voice. Your Health: Vote Like Your Health Depends on It—Because It Does.” The webinar will explore the connection between voting and health, barriers that can make voting more difficult for people with disabilities, and practical strategies to help more people participate.
The Alliance encourages advocates, peers, families, providers, and others across our community to join this timely conversation and continue working to ensure that people with disabilities have the information, access, and support they need to make their own voices heard.
