We’re very pleased to highlight the following experts who have joined our power packed program:
- Brian D. Smedley is co-founder and Executive Director of the National Collaborative for Health Equity, a project that connects research, policy analysis, and communications with on-the-ground activism to advance health equity. In this role, Dr. Smedley oversees several initiatives designed to improve opportunities for good health for people of color and undo the health consequences of racism.
- Mary-Catherine Bohan, Vice President of Outpatient Services, Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care operates a relatively new New Jersey-based Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic in an agency that is doing some pioneering advances in beginning prison re-entry services 90 days before discharge
Once again, we expect to draw a diversity of attendees that will ensure that “all of the right people are in the room” to look at where we are and are heading. This year’s program is especially focused around boosting our ability to successfully engage and support people with the most extensive behavioral health, medical and social challenges who have become top national and NYS priorities. It’s April 19th and 20th at the Albany Hilton.
We’re going to kick off the program with keynoter HHS Assistant Secretary for Mental Health and Substance Use, Dr. Elinore McCance-Katz who’ll provide some details about where the Trump Administration is taking us.
We’ll follow with a reaction panel that includes perspectives from nationally respected representatives from key stakeholder communities, namely consumer advocate Elena Kravitz, noted family advocate and author Pete Earley, Rebecca Farley from the nation’s leading provider advocate (the National Council), leading rights advocate Jennifer Mathis from the Bazelon Center and prominent community psychiatrist Dr. Pablo Sadler.
After lunch, we’ll hear on the ground experts about where NYS is heading to meet these challenges that will include Dr. Ian Shaffer, Donna Colonna, Jeff McQueen, Kate Davidson and OMH’s Bob Myers.
We also have a NYS based panel that will look at what we’re doing on the ground to support this group that will be followed by sessions on Peer Services, Addiction Recovery Supports DSRIP innovations, Criminal Justice initiatives and the Social Determinants of Health.
On Friday we have opening remarks by our outgoing NYS Medicaid Director Jason Helgerson with remarks and discussion by Greg Allen, Bob Myers, and Rob Kent followed by a panel that will discuss how they are taking on the challenges of the changing Medicaid system. We end Friday by taking health inequity head on with a panel led by Lenora Reid Rose and that includes Chacku Mathai
