Gov. Cuomo Has 1 More Day to Sign HALT
Act Every Hour to Urge Him to Sign the Bill!
1. Post Today’s Social Media Post. In recognition of the 24 hours per day people spend in solitary confinement, and in light of the last 24 hours Governor Cuomo has to sign HALT into law (now only 16 hours), we are tweeting a video every hour on the hour, with someone reading the words of people who are in solitary, have been in solitary, or had family in solitary (we started at midnight). Check out and retweet the videos each hour at https://twitter.com/NYCAIC. Also please send your own tweet today:

Melania Brown, activist and sister of the late Layleen Polanco, urges @NYGovCuomo to sign #HALTsolitary!
“My baby sister died in solitary confinement. Governor Andrew Cuomo: You can sign this bill and push to end solitary confinement.”
2. Use Phone 2 Action Tool to call, email, and tweet at the Governor to urge him to sign HALT: http://bit.ly/HALT-phone-action.
Or just directly call the Governor at 518-474-8390 and say: “I am a New Yorker and I urge you to sign the HALT Solitary Confinement Act into law TODAY. Solitary confinement is torture. It causes immense suffering and devastating harm. It makes prisons, jails, and outside communities less safe. It is predominantly inflicted on Black and Latinx New Yorkers. It should have no place in New York State. The people of this state and the legislature have spoken. Sign HALT TODAY to promote racial justice and human rights.”
