‘Stories from the HALT Campaign…and Next Steps Ahead’: May 11 NYAPRS Cultural Competence Committee Webinar
On March 31, 2021, Governor Cuomo signed the Halt Bill (Humane Alternatives to Long Term Solitary Confinement ACT, 2021) limiting the usage of solitary confinement in the state of New York. This is a historic event, restricting the usage of this damaging and traumatizing, torturous practice and banning it entirely for people with disabilities, seniors, youth and new and pregnant Moms.
On May 11, 2021, the NYAPRS Cultural Competence Committee will host a Webinar that will afford advocates from the campaign with the opportunity to share their powerful stories and lived experiences that lead to the passage of HALT legislation that has brought foundational change to New York’s criminal justice system. Hear how HALT Solitary advocates are now looking to build on this extraordinary victory to press for additional criminal justice reforms.
