Hails Chauvin Conviction: ‘No Justice No Peace’
Contact Committee Co-Chairs Jeffrey McQueen 631-464-5773; Marguerite Gayle 646-322-0396
The NYAPRS Cultural Competence committee is dedicated to advocating for human equal rights and racial equity across our nation. We are very heartened by yesterday’s murder convictions of former officer Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd.
Although the guilty verdict does not compensate for the precious loss of life of Mr. Floyd, we expect that any future acts of violence and murder by law enforcement be treated in the same spirit of accountability and punishment to the full extent of the law.
No justice, no peace, no justice, no peace! We all experienced a fraction of peace, some relief, an exhale resulting from the guilty convictions that deliver justice for the murder of Brotha Floyd.
This is the first time a white police officer in the state of Minnesota has ever been convicted for killing a Black man. The Floyd family was spiritual and strong, an example for the nation, the people were unrelenting in the streets, the state legal system was rigorous and efficient, American policing was sent a forceful message to stop and embrace protection and service within their communities.
No justice, no peace, no justice, no peace, and the fight will continue.
THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN!
