NYAPRS Note: Our field and work has come to prioritize the identification of services and tools to aid people in acute mental health crisis. An extremely beneficial but largely underused tool is a psychiatric advance directive, which is a legal, written document that expresses people’s wishes in advance about what types of treatments, services and other assistance they want during a personal mental health crisis. A directive provides a clear statement of one’s medical treatment preferences and other wishes or instructions. They can also be used to grant legal decision-making authority to another person to be one’s advocate and agent until the crisis is over.
NYAPRS is excited to announce a Statewide Advanced Directive Training set for Tuesday June 29th. Ensure your organization and staff are equipped with the important knowledge of Advanced Directives. For more information and to register your new staff, please contact RobertS@nyaprs.org!
